MISSION AND VISION STATEMENT

IAPMO Codes and Standards is dedicated to providing innovative, consensus based, codes and standards solutions for the protection of the public’s health, safety and welfare. We address global codes and standards needs to improve life for a better tomorrow.

STANDARDS DEVELOPMENT

For more than 30 years, IAPMO has developed industry standards (e.g., IGC, ISPS, and TS) to cover innovative new plumbing products not covered by existing standards. Often, new products or new technologies surge ahead far faster than most standards can keep pace. Through our industry standards, IAPMO provides manufacturers and product developers a vehicle for introducing new products to the marketplace in timely manner. If you wish to initiate development of a new IAPMO industry standard, please complete the Standards Application Form and submit it to standards@IAPMOstandards.org.

IAPMO develops and maintains standards with the following designations:

  • IGC: “IGC” is the designation used for consensus industry standards that cover products not yet addressed by existing standards.
  • IS: “IS” is the designation used for consensus industry standards that cover installation practices for plumbing products.
  • PS: Like IGCs, these consensus industry standards were also developed to cover products not yet addressed by existing standards. All newly developed industry product standards are now designated as “IGC.”
  • TS: “TS” is the designation used for consensus industry standards that cover trailer and recreational vehicle products.
  • ANSI/CAN: IAPMO ANSI standards are consensus standards that cover products and materials that are approved as ANSI and/or NSC Standards. Please visit the IAPMO ANSI webpage for information on IAPMO ANSI standards. Please visit the IAPMO National Standards of Canada (NSC) webpage to get more information on IAPMO NSC standards.
  • ASSE: ASSE Product and professional standards are developed through true industry consensus. This means that experts from all segments of the plumbing and mechanical industries, from across the country, gather to determine the minimum performance and knowledge requirements for products and professionals. Please visit ASSE webpage for more information on ASSE standards.

IAPMO's industry standards are developed by stakeholders via an open consensus process, which utilizes the principles of consensus, in accordance with IAPMO Policy S-001 and IAPMO Policy S-008. Such standards are widely accepted by industry and regulators (jurisdictions). All standards are reviewed and approved by the Standards Review Committee (SRC), and periodically maintained in accordance with the IAPMO policies and procedures. Existing IAPMO Industry Standards can be proposed for revision for health and safety reasons by contacting standards@IAPMOstandards.org.

Please visit the IAPMO Industry Standards webpage to get more information on IAPMO Industry Standards.

CREATE AN IAPMO INDUSTRY STANDARD
IAPMO can create a standard for products that are currently not addressed by existing standards. The IAPMO Standards Development professionals will research if an existing standard already exists. If you wish to initiate development of a new IAPMO industry standard or revise an existing one, please fill in the Standards Application Form and submit it to standards@IAPMOstandards.org.

IAPMO GUIDELINES
We are seeking industry experts to participate on the new Technical Committee for Construction Practices for Potable Water Guidelines. Click HERE to apply.

NATIONAL STANDARDS DEVELOPMENT
IAPMO's ANSI standards are developed via an open consensus process, in accordance with the ANSI Essential Requirements: Due process requirements for American National Standards and the IAPMO PP-1 Policies and Procedures for Consensus Development of American National Standards, and approved by the respective standards committee. Please visit the IAPMO ANSI webpage to get more information on IAPMO ANSI standards.

IAPMO National Standards of Canada (NSC) are developed via an open consensus process, in accordance with the Standards Council of Canada (SCC) Canadian Development, Program Overview and IAPMO PP-2:2021 Policies and Procedures for Development of National Standards of Canada. Please visit the IAPMO National Standards of Canada (NSC) webpage to get more information on IAPMO NSC standards.
